Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between strategic control and organizational competitive advantage within the information technology sphere, using the Chabahar Free Zone Organization as a case study. In terms of purpose, the research is applied, and methodologically it adopts a descriptive-correlational design. The statistical population comprises 584 managers, experts, and employees of the Chabahar Free Zone Organization. Based on the Krejcie and Morgan table, the study selects a sample of 234 participants through stratified random sampling. The researchers collect data using a structured questionnaire and analyze them through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4 software. The findings indicate that strategic control exerts a positive and significant effect on information technology capabilities (β = 0.701, t = 23.869) and organizational competitive advantage (β = 0.793, t = 13.137). Furthermore, information technology capabilities positively and significantly influence competitive advantage (β = 0.449, t = 12.451). The coefficient of determination (R²) equals 0.732 for competitive advantage and 0.491 for information technology capabilities, demonstrating the model’s satisfactory explanatory power. These findings highlight that, within the information technology environment, strategic control not only directly enhances competitive advantage but also contributes to the development of sustainable competitive advantage by strengthening information technology capabilities. By integrating Simons’ Levers of Control framework, the Resource-Based View (RBV), and Dynamic Capabilities Theory, this study provides a deeper understanding of the mechanisms through which competitive advantage is created and sustained in free trade zones.
